Subjects

Reading
Emergent readers focus on letter sound and recognition, as well as sight words, simple sentences, and short stories. Students who are proficient in reading further develop their skills with a selection of both fiction and non-fiction works.

Writing
We use Handwriting Without Tears as our approach to letter formation. Cursive and print are both taught. Older students focus on sentence structure, grammar, and how to organize their thoughts on paper.

Science
In-depth nature studies and hands-on activities round out our science adventures. Students will become proficient in using a microscope and compass, collecting and identifying plants and animals, and learning more about how the world works.

Social Studies
We teach our students how to be responsible world citizens. From understanding different cultures to knowing the history behind why things are the way they are today, we help raise compassionate adults who respect and appreciate our differences.

Life Skills
We feel strongly that a complete education includes basic life skills. Students learn to meal plan and prepare their own lunches, as well as how to clean up from these activities. Basic home repair, woodworking, gardening, and anything else that we encounter during our home-based lessons are always an opportunity for learning!

Art
Students are exposed to a wide variety of art styles and are given the tools and techniques to create their own masterpieces. Frequent "Artistic Freedom" days provide an opportunity for individuality and creative development.

Leadership
Weekly group meetings give the students a voice and the ability to steer their own education.

Independence
We work to instill a sense of independence in our students so that when they go out into the world, they carry themselves with confidence.
