Our first week of class was a whirlwind of fun and excitement. Tuesday was spent going over expectations, choosing project topics for Genius Hour (the next focus of our Highlights series), gauging individual levels in math and language arts, and walking the outdoor boundaries at Ms. Milly's house. The kids really enjoyed running around in the grass, feeding the goats, and climbing trees.

Wednesday had a similar feel to it, with discussing plans for the year, running our first "family meeting" where the students made a meal plan for first quarter lunches, and going on their first nature walk through Ms. Sarah's woods. For lunch the students prepared a variety of pizzas, and then they played outside and climbed more trees. Our final class of the day was an introduction to our first rotating project topic: Electricity! We mapped Ms. Sarah's circuit breaker and discussed various reasons for why this is an important task. The kids made a list of questions they would like answered during future classes, and we explained that they would be building their own generators!
