During the second week of Revolutionary Learning’s classes, we began to settle into our routines. The morning at Ms Milly’s was spent practicing the three R’s. While the older kids practiced with fractions and multiple digit addition, young learners engaged with activities to help them identify the word form of numbers. The little ones practiced letter sounds while older students continued their book club, silently reading while nestled together on the couches.
The afternoon was abuzz with genius hour projects. In one corner, dinosaurs were sorted into carnivores and omnivores and glued to a poster while across the room a hook rug began to be created. Shakespeare was read, Victorian dressmaking was studied, dog behavior and the history of theatre contemplated. Fun was had by all as we finished our day with a trip through Ms. Milly’s living tunnel of luffa plants.

Wednesday at Ms. Sarah’s house began with our weekly meeting and meal planning, then we headed out for a short hike down to the creek to collect inspirations for our nature journals. Having worked up a good appetite, we enjoyed scrambled eggs and French Toast complete with cream freshly whipped by the class. Our study of electricity continued with a lesson on how gears can be used to increase speed or force. We are excited to for next Wednesday when we will get a chance to review data we collect this week regarding our homes’ use electrical use at night and looking forward to eventually comparing that data to times during the day when more power is being pulled to fuel the electronics and appliances we rely on.
